east village. august. crowded, little bar-room.
stand closer. we were right in front of the stage.
the band was loud, the crowd was watching.

and the crowd all probably wondered why
she was crying while she kissed me.
the band played another song.

reflections from the cymbals in our faces.
ice cubes melt like time.
i taste her cranberry and vodka.
then they crowded in tighter.

everybody had to wonder why
she was crying while she kissed me.
the band turned it up louder.

goodbye.
she loves me.
she cried.
