i guess i shouldn't have found it surprising.
it was the most natural thing to be done.
i don't let it bother now, and i'm smiling.
i'm living my life and i'm having my fun.
everything's beautiful now, and i'm smiling.
i've been walking around like this all day.
got the sun in my eyes, i'm alive, and i'm smiling.
like i did when i woke you up every day.
my friends tried to warn me.
she's too young, too far away.
cold weather approaching,
and she's gone away.
i've never been known to be optimistic.
even when things aren't that bad
i know that i'm not going to cure it by smiling.
but the alternative seems kind of sad.
i'm fine with it all, you can tell, 'cause i'm smiling
like i did when i caught your eye that day.
sun's going to shine, i'm alive, and i'm smiling
as though i never did care, anyway.
